August 4, 2020 8:00PM Street Movies "Whose Streets?" with Positive Movement Drum Line

Whose Streets? (2017) - IMDb
Street Movies! is a free screening series for audiences of all ages that tours neighborhoods around the Philadelphia region, bringing a program of independent film - fiction, animation, documentary, and youth and community produced work - from around the world to local parks, lots, playgrounds, and community spaces.  Each screening is hosted by a community organization and followed by a moderated discussion about the topics raised in the films.  It’s a great way to see films, talk about community issues and meet your neighbors.

We are excited to launch the Street Movies! 2020, our 23rd season! The highlights of this summer’s outdoor screening and performance series, presented in neighbourhoods throughout Philadelphia and in Camden, are detailed below.
With the restrictions due to the spread of Covid-19, we ask you to continue checking this website often for the most up-to-date information on our final program. We will abide by CDC and Philadelphia Department of Health guidelines, including social distancing and requiring face masks be worn at all times. All events below are subject to change or cancellation so please check our website before you leave your house. To prevent the spread of the virus, there will be no public restrooms and no indoor inclement weather plans in case of rain. However, Street Movies! film presentations will also be presented online. At each location there WILL be live music, performances, films, and fun! Our slate below will be finalized in the coming weeks, so again, please check back with us often here or on all our social media accounts.

July 25, 2020 8:00PM Sun Ra Arkestra with Urban Shaman Attack at WCL

Sun Ra Arkestra {POSTPONED}
*RESCHEDULED FROM 4/3 - ALL TICKETS VALID*
Doors: 6:30 PM / Show: 8 PM
$25.00 - $37.00
All Ages
Sun Ra was one of the greatest and least known jazz artists of the last four decades. Composer, bandleader, pianist, poet and Afro-Futurist philosopher, he founded his Arkestra to take jazz into unexplored territories – his style drawing simultaneously on black vaudeville, modern dance, Egyptian cosmology, Eastern philosophy, surrealism, kitsch, and the Bible.
The Arkestra performs today led by 95-year young alto saxophonist and long-time Ra collaborator Marshall Allen. The mischievous brass blasts and the grooves keep rolling, as the big band – fully dressed, as usual, in space capes with a hint of Ancient Egy disciplined yet free thinking collectives of 20th century music’ The Quietus
We are Urban Shaman Attack, or USA, from Wilmington, Delaware. Our multi-genre music is the soundtrack for the movie happening now. Composed of drums, guitar, horns, and keys.. our psychedelic sounds and introspection bridges the gap between the jam band scene, jazz, and experimental.

Created by Philadelphia native, Dariel Peniazek, Kalectiv is, in a way, exactly what it sounds like: a collective snapshot of cultural boundaries blurred through music, words, and collaboration. The music of Kalectiv represents a unique fusion of strong Latin American and Cuban roots with today's funk, RnB, and jazz sensibilities. The final result? Music that is thought provoking, yet accessible in nature, and bound to make you move. The group features a rotating cast of musicians but is held together at its core by founder Dariel Peniazek on the guitar and Cuban tres, Grammy award nominee Ariacne Trujillo Durand on vocals and piano, two time and Grammy award winner Arturo Stable on percussion. Kalectiv was born in 2019 during a residency held by Dariel Peniazek at the Kimmel Center for performing arts in Philadelphia. Following the band's inception in 2019, Kalectiv was invited to perform in multiple venues in South Korea, including the Daegu International Jazz Festival. Kalectiv continues to perform both locally and internationally and appeals to a wide range of audiences and venues alike.
------
This year we are thrilled to be partnering with Michelle Lordi, internationally renowned vocalist, songwriter, bandleader and curator. Building on the hugely successful world music format of the past three summers, Michelle is putting together a phenomenal line up of musicians and bands from around the globe. Americana, Jazz, Gospel / Music for the Soul, Klezmer, Cuban and African music will round out this year's offerings!
