August 25, 2021 7:00PM Son Rompe Pera at the Maas Building

Son Rompe Pera is fueled by the raucous rebel energy of punk, ska, and rockabilly. They combust at every live performance, armed to the teeth with a deep knowledge of Mexican, Peruvian, and Colombian cumbia classics and with their weapon of choice, the marimba.

In pre-pandemic 2020, the band recorded & released their debut album (AYA Records, a subsidiary label of ZZK Records), with brand new original songs. As the US started to ease travel restrictions, Son Rompe Pera launched a US tour, including a stop in Philadelphia (with AFROTAINO, of course). Their live shows flip the perspective of what is ‘traditional’, and brazenly prove that folk is punk AF.

August 21, 2021 7:00PM Philly Summer Tablao at Cherry Street Pier

A Summer evening of Flamenco on the Cherry Street Pier 💃🏾
Join Pasión y Arte, Philadelphia’s premier all female contemporary flamenco dance company, for a return of tablao to Philadelphia. This special evening presents an outdoor Tablao performance at Cherry Street Pier, featuring 5 artists that include a singer, guitarist, and three dancers. Tablaos are exciting improvisational flamenco performances that take place in casual venues, much like what occurs at a jazz club or at a poetry reading. Whether you love Flamenco or are entirely new to its traditions, this spirited gathering of the Tablao is a unique opportunity to learn more about and fall in love with this vibrant art form that emerged in the 15th century. Experience will be paired with a complimentary glass of Spanish wine and will include a post-performance Q&A with the artists. Guests are then invited to hang at the Cherry Street Beer Garden overlooking the Delaware River waterfront and enjoy any additional food and drink.

August 20, 2021 7;00-11:00PM Tracks at the Vale with Omar's Hat, Black Buttafly, and Ryan Tennis Band

Please join us for a beautiful evening of music this Friday at the Vale, a pluricultural hideaway in Mt. Airy, Philadelphia!
Headling the show will be Omar's Hat, a Jazz/R&B/Soul collective made up of Philly's finest young talent. "Omar's Hat started on the corner of 45th and Locust when a group of musicians gathered in a place called Meskerem to spark a jam that hasn't stopped since. This collective is our open act of rebellion, always expanding, never settling. This music is our love for Philadelphia, for a history of sounds that make and remake us every day. Our music is for Omar, whose dance never quit reminding us that each day is to be treasured; that you can always find magic in the everyday. This music is for you, come join in. All creative attitudes are welcomed and celebrated. Omar's Hat is free to try on and wear out and pass off to a friend or a loved one or a sister or a stranger. We thank you for being a part of the vibe.”
The Vale
229 W. Sedgwick St.
Philadelphia, Pa
Before Omar's Hat will be Black Buttafly. "Kayla Latan Childs, also known as Black Buttafly (she/her) is a queer, black, Jersey native hailing from New Brunswick. Her music roots are in Hip-Hop and Jazz music and her musical influences range from Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Stevie Wonder, and Herbie Hancock. Child’s first encounters with the piano began in her church. She is a self taught pianist attending Rutgers University pursuing her degree in Jazz Performance and Music Technology. She’s performed in a mix of venues such as World Live Cafe, The Queen Wilmington, and the Warehouse on Watts. She’s a band member of Omar’s Hat, and UPENDO while working with local artists like Orion Sun and Ivy Sole. She is a curator of soulful sound and vulnerable vibes."
Ryan Tennis and his band will open the night. "Ryan Tennis hails from Philadelphia--America's City of Brotherly Love, which makes sense, because his music is all about lifting barriers and bringing people together. Genre-defying by nature and diverse at its core, his rousing songs are infused with rhythms from the many countries he’s visited during extensive touring. While his performances are dynamic and danceable, Tennis’ voice and songs have a disarming sweetness that helps you drop your defenses, breathe easy and join in the fun."
Drinks and light snacks will be provided, and we’ll be asking for a $15-25 suggested donation at the door (facebook for some reason is making it so that every event must be listed as "free,"). Space will be limited, so if you’re interested in reserving a spot, DM me here and Venmo $25 to @ryantennismusic . If you're having trouble coming up with the donation, DM me and we can work that out!
Doors 7pm, Music 8pm.
***PARKING: PLEASE PARK ON CRESHEIM ST., which is just a block from my house, and not on Sedgwick St.***
