December 19, 2021 6:00-10:00PM The Warmup #39 Home for the Holidaze at The Boom Room

THE WARM UP is Home for the Holidaze on Sunday December 19th at The Boom Room! Pull up, Pham. We've missed you!!!
This edition is super special because we want to show our appreciation with an Artist Empowerment Package available for raffle! This package will include paid tuition for an online music business course, studio/practice time at Boom Room Studios, and more!! We are excited for one lucky budding artist to win this package to propel their musical journey!
The Warm Up is a live music event that is partly curated and partly free flow offering Featured Acts as well as an Open Mic element that aims to unite seasoned musicians with soul driven musical novices. This event ran for 3 consecutive years before breaking for travel and of course, the Global Pandemic. The event's host and visionary, Geri Omni aka Omni MC, draws our musical community together in an environment that both honors our city's great musical masters as well as fosters our up and coming artists with collaborative sonic expression and inspiring entertainment. And all this before bedtime!!!

The Warm Up #39 will get lit at 6pm (Open Mic sign ups usually fill up by 7:30), it stays heated with music and dancing throughout the night and then will sizzle out around 10pm. The event kicks off with a 10 minute community jam, led by our House Band, to warm things up (ha! See what we did there?) and closes out with an extended jam to move our bodies and raise the vibe so be sure to arrive on time, stick around for the whole gig and experience the musical evolution first hand. Open Mic segments and Featured Artist performances alternate throughout the eve.
To preserve the safety of our community and loved ones, The Boom Room is requiring masks to be worn indoors for those not singing or playing a wind instrument. Masks are not required outdoors. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
The Featured Artists for this event include:
Omni MC (It's been a minute!)

Sonni Shine (She's back!)
And of course, YOU! Come get happy y'all!

December 18, 2021 8:30PM Minas Quintet Tribute to Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66

Sergio Mendes turned 80 this year. He’s had an outstanding career as a top-selling artist and record producer, and he is the top living Brazilian musician outside of Brazil. PBS honored him with a special program aired early this summer, watched by millions of viewers. Sergio Mendes broke many barriers - many of his top 40 hits were in Portuguese. His band “Brasil 66”, featuring singer Lani Hall, packed large venues and exposed a whole new generation to Bossa Nova and Brazilian Jazz. Sergio and and his band are still performing and touring. Certainly an inspiration.

Minas, led by the Philadelphia-based music couple Orlando and Patricia Haddad, will bring Sergio Mendes’ music to life with a tribute in The Lounge. Expect to hear hits such as Mais Que Nada, Pretty World, Upa Neguinho, Fool on the Hill, Like a Lover, Night and Day, Tristeza, The Look of Love, and others, including one of the few songs Mendes and Brasil 66‘s lead singer Lani Hall wrote together, the beautiful and lush So Many Stars. Minas will perform as a quintet.

Indicated for 4 Grammy Awards with the latest CD Symphony in Bossa, Orlando and Patricia of Minas were very much influenced by Sergio Mendes Brasil 66, in the early days. Minas will be performing Sergio’s arrangements, as well as providing a taste of the original Brazilian/Portuguese version of most songs.

Join York Street Hustle for their 9th Annual Holiday Spectacular at World Cafe Live! Stomp your feet, shake your hips and catch the spirit of the season with a special mix of Southern Soul and Motown Holiday Classics, 1960's soul hits and B-sides by the likes of Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Darlene Love, The Temptations, Donny Hathaway, The Jackson 5, and many more! Our Holiday Spectacular is an ALL AGES show for kids from one to ninety-two, and seated tickets (including ADA seating) will be available!

Each week, ten musicians arrive at a former South Philadelphia funeral home where, one by one, they unload their old tube amps and vintage gear. Once inside, the classic sounds of the 1960s are reinvigorated, re-energized and reborn. Legends, like Stevie, Aretha and the Four Tops; lesser-known artists including Donny Hathaway, Arthur Conley and Betty Everett – all are given new life. In a few short years York Street Hustle has gone from filling tiny South Street bars to repeated sell outs of World Cafe Live. Their repertoire now spans over 80 songs including more than a decade worth of Detroit, Memphis, and Chicago soul. This is not your typical Motown wedding band. With grit, sweat, and attention to detail, York Street Hustle is the Northeast’s premier 10-piece 1960s soul tribute.

York Street Hustle's first-ever physical release, Cruelty EP, is a combination of original material coupled with a lost soul rarity, and represents both a significant change and a return to form. The group remains rooted in the traditions of classic soul, funk, and breaks, identifiable to fans of soul revival outfits like Daptone, Big Crown and Colemine Records.

About Bethlehem & Sad Patrick:
Bethlehem and Sad Patrick deliver powerful songs of love and other struggles. Combining smart, heartfelt lyrics, soaring vocals, sparse guitar and driving percussion, they dig deep into being in and out of love, keeping your head up in the city, struggling in all sorts of ways, and searching for peace on the margins. Sad Patrick’s hybrid of folk and jazz guitar provides a subtle counterpoint to Bethlehem’s “vocussion” – her term for her powerful, immersive singing, remarkable improvisations and nuanced melodies riding atop tarima and body percussion. 2019’s “Love and Other Struggles” sonically and thematically extends their range, and landed them on NPR Slingshot’s list of Ten Artists to Know from Philadelphia. “The pair use minimalism to their advantage, crafting delicate and thoughtful songs about everything from love to life in the city to the fight against racism and intolerance with a gentle poetic edge.” – Sarah Hojsak, WXPN / The Key.
About Sug Daniels:
Sug Daniels is a singer, songwriter, and producer who is using the tools around her to capture the emotions of an era. Daniels’ work is as colorful, vulnerable, and charismatic as her personality. She thoughtfully combines elements of folk, R&B, and low-fi alternatives to create personal and tender music interlaced with messages of truth and positive change.
