Celebrate Holi, the Hindu festival ofspring, with a live, online performance of classical Indian dance by Philadelphia-based dance academy and studio, Three Aksha. Dancer, choreographer, and teacher Viji Rao and her company will showcase their mastery of Bharatanatyam, a dance form dating back nearly 3000 years. With a strict adherence to the lines of the body, angles, and geometry, Bharatanatyam has a sophisticated vocabulary of movements to tell stories, express emotions, and embody spiritual themes.

Philly Drum Project is excited for our next virtual event, Philly Drum Project Presents: Pat Petrillo, Tuesday, March 23 at 7:30 pm EST!

A world renowned drummer, educator, and product inventor, Pat Petrillo has been a leader in the drum industry for years. He has backed a wide array of artists from many genres, including Patti LaBelle, Gloria Gaynor, Glen Burtnik, and numerous Broadway shows, His popular videos on Drumeo.com and numerous others have inspired millions of drummers over the years. He now leads his exciting NYC Big Rhythm Band, who have appeared at numerous venues, clubs, and universities throughout the east coast.

On their debut release, “The Abbey Road Sessions,” recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studio 2, the band brings a NYC flavor new to classic Beatles gems, with great instrumental arrangements. This group of NYC session pros performs an impressive set of material covering genres from The Beatles inspired arrangements, to R&B to Jazz & World Music. Pat Petrillo endorses Ludiwg Drums, Zildjian Cymbals, Evans Drumheads, and Promark Drumsticks.

On 13-14 March, marking Women’s History Month, HIYA will host a 12-hour music marathon bringing together an all-female line-up of progressive DJs, musicians, singers, poets and artists from across the SWANA region who are shaping the future of music. A two-day digital festival, as a statement against the patriarchy, HIYA Live presents a whirlwind of radical sounds across multiple genres, through intimate live performances, DJ sets, poetry readings and interviews curated by Natalie Shooter and Shirine Saad.

March 11, 2021 7:00PM Minas Quartet Live Stream Concert from Esperanza Center

 


 In March, Minas, along with Andrew Neu (sax/flute) and Alejandro Lucini (Brazilian percussion) will present a concert of all original music live onstage at Esperanza Theater. The theater will be empty, but it'll be broadcast in real time to the public. Admission is $5 and free for students and seniors. In April, Orlando has been commissioned to write a new chamber music composition for Orchestra 2001, to be be premiered also at Esperanza Theater. Both Orlando and Patricia will take part as well. The piece, which is under development, will be called "Lendas Amazônicas", based on legends from the indigenous people from the Amazon.
