York Street Hustle
"Each week, ten musicians arrive at a former South Philadelphia funeral home where, one by one, they unload their old tube amps and vintage gear. Once inside, the classic sounds of the 1960s are reinvigorated, re-energized and reborn. Legends, like Stevie, Aretha and the Four Tops; lesser-known artists including Donny Hathaway, Arthur Conley and Betty Everett – all are given new life.
In a few short years the York Street Hustle has gone from filling tiny South Street bars to repeated sell outs of WXPN’s World Cafe Live. Their repertoire now spans over 80 songs including more than a decade worth of Detroit, Memphis and Chicago soul. This is not your typical Motown wedding band. With grit, sweat, and attention to detail, The York Street Hustle is the Northeast’s premier 10-piece 1960s soul tribute."

December 12, 2020 7:00-9:00PM The HipHop Nutcracker : A Streaming Performance

 Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 7 PM EST – 9 PM EST

Online Event
A holiday mash-up for the whole family, directed and choreographed by Jennifer Weber, The Hip Hop Nutcracker recorded live at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center is a contemporary dance spectacle set to Tchaikovsky’s timeless music. A unique and joyful event, this evening-length production is performed by a supercharged cast of a dozen all-star dancers, a DJ, a violinist, and MC Kurtis Blow, one of hip hop’s founding fathers, who opens the show with a short set.
Just like the original, in The Hip Hop Nutcracker, Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker Prince go on a dream adventure battling a gang of mice, visiting the land of sweets, and learning the lessons of the holiday season. Innovative digital graffiti and visuals transform the landscape of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s beloved story from traditional 19th Century Germany to the vibrant, diverse sights and sounds of contemporary New York City.
Through this re-mixed and re-imagined version of the classic, the dynamic performers of The Hip Hop Nutcracker take us on a journey that celebrates love, community, and the magic of the holiday season.
Special thank you to Proud Performance Sponsor, Merck.
Proceeds benefit the Kimmel Cultural Campus' Road to Reopening Relief Fund.

December 4, 2020 6:30-8:00PM Taller Puertorriqueño's Virtual Parranda and Fundraiser

What a year it has been!  “Despite it all”, Taller Puertorriqueño (Taller) has been able to perform its mission and stay on course.  It is not easy, and it is not over.

“Despite it all”, we do need to celebrate.

We celebrate our collective resilience, our fortitude, and everybody’s hard work and sacrifice during the COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdown and beyond. We remember those we have experienced loss and sing for those heroes who carry us through.  And we look ahead, with your support.

With the theme “A PESAR DE LOS PESARES” (Despite it all), honoring Taller founder Rafaela Colón, join our Virtual Parrandas (Christmas Holiday Celebration) here:  https://tallerpr.org/event/parranda/

Step into our supporters’ circle and support

Our goal is $15,000. To reach it, we need everyone’s help, no matter how small your contribution may seem. All gifts matter because they add up and because you care

Taller’s strength is its deep connections to community, as it provides a local fertile environment with its programs that preserve, develop, and promote Puerto Rican arts and culture and celebrate the broader Latino art scene. The holidays are a time to revel in culture. Embracing one's cultural heritage is central to community empowerment.  Supporting the arts by supporting Taller, does both!
