The Jam Jawn with Eric Sherman

THE JAM JAWN
An OPEN Jam Session Series
Hosted by LaTreice Victoria
FRI, AUG 6TH | 10pm-2am @ Dahlak Paradise
4708 Baltimore Ave, Phila

Have you ever wanted to jam with your favorite musician? I mean, you've been going to all the shows, and you know all the songs. Would you like to participate in how the artist creates their signature grooves and melodies, transcending genre, developing musical arrangements and lyrics, blending traditional and unconventional soundscapes? Well, that is the essence of "THE JAM JAWN".

This month's JAM JAWN features multi-instrumentalist, Eric Sherman, as "Conductor of the Jam".

Eric Sherman is a Philly based multi-instrumentalist and composer. He is a devotee of the genre of Farmer Funk, food taken through the eardrums used to help build soils around the world. He is a new insert to the music scene since moving to Philadelphia in January and is quickly making an impact.

So join us for an awe-inspiring evening of improvisational music. All musicians, poets, lyricists, and singers are welcome.

August 6, 2016 10:00PM - 1:00AM Hector Rosado Y Orquesta Hache at SteelStacks

Hector Rosado, an accomplished percussionist, has toured with the best in the business. He has traveled nationwide, as well as world tours with music titans such as David Burne, Dave Valentine, and the legendary Tito Puente. The list goes on and on.

In addition to performing, Hector has recorded for Warner Bros. and has created tracks for "video Jams" as seen on the BET Network.

Hector Rosado also composes music for bands and soundtracks. He is involved with arranging and directing music for various Latin vocalists on a national level.

When it comes to Latin Percussion, Hector Rosado is the first name uttered from the lips of professional Latin musicians on the east coast of America.

Mr. Rosado is certainly no stranger to the music business.

Smooth Jazz Summer Nights at Penn's Landing

Avery*Sunshine is without a doubt one of the most dynamic voices on the creative music scene, known for her invigorating and combustible live performances, compelling and revealingly honest song writing and impeccable instrument. The earthy and charming singer who has lent her vocals to the silver screen and collaborated with the likes of Roy Ayers, Will Downing, and Musiq Soulchild, has also lent her choral directing and choirs to a few of the live performances from Michael Buble, David Foster, Anthony Hamilton,
and Jennifer Holiday. In 2005 she lent her voice to the soundtrack for Paramount Pictures¹ The Fighting Temptations, and in 2005 she was hired as lead keyboardist for Tyler Perry¹s stage play Meet the Browns. In 2007, she was sought out by Grammy- and Tony Award-winning vocal powerhouse Jennifer Holliday to be choral director for the theatrical production of Dreamgirls during the National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta. Avery*Sunshine has also had the distinction of performing at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, CO and four private events during the 2009 Inauguration of President Barack Obama. As home in a variety of musical contexts, she has also sung background for gospel icon Yolanda Adams.

Oscar López Rivera is one of the most relevant figures of our times in Puerto Rico. Different and often opponent political parties, social and religious groups are engaged in the campaign for his freedom. Moreover the campaign has moved toward an international level. To talk about Oscar Lopez Rivera implies a discussion of the relationship between the island of Puerto Rico and the United States. Colonialism, the American correctional system, the Diaspora, human rights, the concept of national identity, and minority figths are constitutive elements of history and present fight. Another fundamental aspect in his political resistance is the use of art particularly throughout his painting.

This project aims to contribute to the struggle for the release of Oscar López Rivera through cultural agency. To this end, a touring exhibition was designed. It will be exhibited in New York, Chicago and Puerto Rico as part of a strategy of internationalization of the campaign for the release, using the arts to achieve visibility. The exhibition includes participation of thirty-four artists, from the island and the diaspora.

July 20, 2016 5:00-8:00 PM Penn Museum Summer Nights Concert with Zydeco-A-Go-Go

Zydeco-A-Go-Go
With Creole Zydeco and Cajun 2-steps, this group combines funky New Orleans rhythm and blues and vintage Louisiana rock ‘n roll into a spicy gumbo of irresistible dance music.

From Bluegrass to Creole, from Afro-Cuban to Mexican Mariachi—with a little 80s pop in the mix—Penn Museum’s popular Summer Nights Concert Series offers a little something for everyone. Now in its seventh year, the Wednesday night series runs from June 15 through September 7, 5:00 to 8:00 pm, in the Museum’s outdoor Stoner Courtyard garden.

The Pepper Mill Café offers a garden bar, with beer, wine, and cocktails as well as non-alcoholic beverages, and regionally-themed happy hour fare available for purchase. Guests can opt to sit at outdoor tables, stage-front seating, or lawn seating to enjoy the performances. Galleries remain open, and guests may choose to take a short docent-led gallery tour at intermission, or enjoy Museum galleries on their own, until 8:00 pm. Concerts take place rain or shine, moving inside in inclement weather.

General admission, which includes admission to the Museum’s galleries, is just $10; $5 PennCard holders and Penn Medicine and CHOP employees with ID; free for Penn Museum Members. (There is an additional fee for the special exhibition The Golden Age of King Midas.)

The Penn Museum is located at 3260 South Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104 (on Penn's campus, across from Franklin Field).
