January 17, 2026 5:00-8:00PM Fire Museum presents: Saami Brothers Qawwali at The Neighborhood House

Hailing from Karachi, Pakistan, the Saami family are the living custodians of one of the world’s oldest and most powerful musical legacies. A Sufi dynasty with an unbroken lineage spanning nearly 800 years, the family– led by Ustad Naseeruddin Saami– are master practitioners of two deeply spiritual and technically demanding traditions: Khayal and Qawwali.

The Saami family are the living custodians of the Delhi Qawwal Bacha Gharana – a musical school of thought -- founded in the 14th century by the legendary Sufi poet, musician, and scholar Amir Khusrau by combining Persian, Turkish, Arabic and South Asian elements. The Saami family is the last family to preserve this tradition in its purest form and are true masters. As exemplary vocalists, they are capable of producing a rarely heard 49-note microtonal scale relayed in a manner that uses few words sung in unending variations.

This event is the annual fundraiser for Twelve Gates Arts. Full performance with dinner & drinks fundraiser tickets are $130 dollars a person. A limited number of sliding scale and discounted seats are available, please go to the ticket page for more information.

January 4, 2026 3:00-6:00PM Philly Roda de Samba e Choro at The Black Squirrel Club

Samba is a style of music and dance, a community celebration, and a way of life. The “Philly Roda de Samba e Choro” presents samba and choro as they are traditionally performed in Brazil: with friends gathered around a table, playing tunes, singing along, dancing, eating, drinking, and filling the souls of all with joy.

With a core group comprised of Fernanda Bravo (voice/pandeiro), Gregg Mervine (cavaquinho), Rob Curto (piano), Mark Stehle (percussion) and Marcos Oliveira (percussion), the Philly Roda plays every first Sunday at the Black Squirrel Club, and features a guest artist each time.
