During this 5-week session, students will begin to learn about various flamenco palos (rhythms) and how to express them with palmas (rhythmic hand clapping) and zapateo (percussive footwork). After mastering the proper colocación (posture), students will learn how different parts of the feet are used to make sound; including planta (the ball of the foot), tacón (the heel), golpe (a stomp of the entire foot), and punta (the point of the toe). We will also break down twelve and four beat rhythms using the two types of rhythmic hand-clapping (palmas sordas/palmas altas). Each class will end with Sevillanas, a traditional dance done in pairs that stems from folkloric Spanish dance. When you buy in advance, all five classes are $60.
