ALL ABOARD NOW, IT’S FESTIVAL TIME! The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation’s (DRWC) Great Plaza will be transformed into many islands showcasing authentic island sounds of reggae, roots international beat, soca, hip-hop, cool jazz, reggae, soca, gospel and creative dances complimented by a market place of Caribbean Fashions and Exotic Cuisine. A culturally rich celebration of 14 Caribbean Islands promises to treat you to a wholesome family fun day on the Great Plaza, Penn’s Landing, at Columbus Boulevard and Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 12:00 Noon until 8:00 p.m. The event will also feature the ever-popular steel drum band, Philly PanStars, along with a Caribbean Culture booth - Tings Caribbean – where one can feel, touch and sample “Tings” from the islands. A Caribbean Children’s Village – “Pickney Kannah” with story telling, face painting, bead-making and much more. Now in its 32nd year, this FREE festival of Caribbean culture, music, and food is one of the celebrations of the many festivals in the PECO Multicultural Series and part of the 2018 summer season at DRWC Penn’s Landing, presented by PECO. The Caribbean Festival & Cultural Committee works in harmony to publicize the importance of the islands and the cultural contributions of the Caribbean Community to the Philadelphia region and beyond. Most importantly, the event raises scholarship funds for college students of Caribbean descent. For information contact Capfest@gmail.com; www.phillycaribbeanfestival.com. |
