Matt Wheeler

A troubadour, a poet with a guitar, a stage banter-conversationalist - all terms that describe Matt Wheeler's music & performance style well. Matt’s songwriting paints pictures with words, often drawing inspiration from classic works of literature or simply spinning new original stories in song. Lyrics & dynamics play a key role, as each song really means something, and each one is delivered with an honesty that is compelling.

Matt draws audiences in with engaging stories and interaction, while shining the spotlight on the lyrical strength of his songs. And, when joined by his band Vintage Heart, the poignant lyrics meet expressive strings and driving percussion to make orchestral folk songs that rewards repeated listens. The result is a pleasing sound that recalls wordsmiths like Denison Witmer, Iron & Wine, and James Taylor.

She studied the erhu, or Chinese violin, with Professor Huang Qidu and erhu master Zhang Yuming. After she graduated, she worked as an erhu performer and teacher. In 1986, she started working as a reporter, music program editor and program host for the Nanning city radio station. In the last role, she interviewed many famous musicians in China.

Acclaimed American pianist Kathryn Woodard curates and performs programs that explore cross-cultural exchange in music. Her international performances have taken her to China, Korea, Croatia, Thailand, Germany, Turkey, and Kyrgyzstan. She has served as an American Cultural Specialist for the U.S. Department of State, leading educational initiatives to introduce audiences abroad to new American music. The piano stylings of Steve Herrick:

Steve Herrick is a walking encyclopedia of musical history. Although mostly known for his work with Brasilian superstar Astrud Gilberto, he's shared the stage with musical thinkers such as Paulo Jobim, Gil Goldstein and Duduka Fonseca. His improvisations and interpretations invite the listener to reconsider how you hear it.
