November 19 & 20, 2021 7:30PM Anatomy of a Tablao at Asian Arts Initiative

 


If you are a fan of flamenco or want to know more about it, come to Anatomy of a Tablao at Asian Arts Initiative on November 19 or 20th. The evening will feature a singer, guitarist, and percussionist.


We are delighted to welcome Hector Jose Marquez (cante) back to Philly! Hector was first exposed to flamenco through his father, Hector Marquez, Sr, who started his flamenco education in Granada, Spain with Paco Valencia. Hector first studied cante with Rafael Bernal and most recently with Maestro Rafael De Utrera. Hector has worked nationally and internationally with figures such as Edwin Aparicio, Anna Menendez, Richard Marlow, Behzad Habibzai, Miguelito Prez, Tobias Guzman, Francisco "Yiyi" Orozco, Tony Denis and Jimmy Wilson and has performed at the Kennedy Center, Creative Alliance, Center Stage, Gala Hispanic Theater, the Harman Hall, Instituto Cervanntes, and the Old Town School of Folk Music.

Guitarist Adrian Alvarado (toque) is a Spanish-Brazilian guitarist, arranger, and composer with an international career. He is a versatile guitarist, his style forged in the tablaos of Madrid and the peñas Flamencas of Sevilla and Cadiz. His musical influences and background also range from the Middle East to jazz and Brazilian music, He has lived in New York since 2018, where he is a frequent collaborator with several artists from the flamenco scene such as Alfonso Cid, Bárbara Martínez, Flamenco Vivo, among others.

Alex Shaw is a percussionist, vocalist, composer, and arts educator. Alex specializes in Brazilian music traditions and is a member of Philadelphia’s award-winning Spoken Hand Percussion Orchestra and Director of the renowned Brazilian ensemble, Alô Brasil. Alex is a founding artist of World Cafe Live’s education program and has served as the Artistic Director of Intercultural Journeys.
