Tomas Rodriguez explores the origins of the Spanish guitar in Africa, briefly touching upon 16th-century vihuela music and early flamenco guitar compositions. As these root traditions combine with African, Indigenous, and European musical influences in the Americas, a fresh framework for solo guitar emerges. The program highlights compositions from Brazil, Cuba, and Venezuela, showcasing new rhythmic and harmonic textures, along with Rodriguez’s personal interpretation of this evolution through his original solo guitar compositions.
Opening for Tomas is our very own, the amazing Jake Kelberman! Doors at 7, show at 7:30. See you there!
