October 14, 2025 7:00PM Not So Latin Concerts: Lelia Adu

Join us tuesday, October 14th as we welcome the mesmerizing Lelia Adu and her trio to Notsolatin! Her music explores her own roots (she is from New Zealand, Britain and Ghana), but Adu is always inspired by where she is, so Bali, France and Italy, and New York (where she lives now) manifest in her music. She has been compared to Nina Simone and Joanna Newsome by John Schaefer at New York’s WNYC, who described her as “a genuinely good singer, with a velvety, soulful voice.”

We are honored to have Lelia and her trio make notsolatin stop on their nation-wide tour.

October 5, 2025 3:00PM Ensemble Novo: Exploring a Century of Brazilian Song

Join us in North Philly with Ensemble Novo. Ensemble Novo explores the uplifting, endlessly rhythmic music of Brazil through the lens of improvisation. On this program, the 5-piece group celebrates classic samba, bossa nova and Musica Popular Brazileira in a spirit of spontaneous adventure.

About Ensemble Novo:

Ensemble Novo celebrates the windswept melodies and perpetual-motion rhythms of Brazilian music. The five-piece band has been performing in the Philadelphia region for a decade, and has recorded a series of mini-albums that have been played on WXPN-FM and WRTI-FM as well as stations in Rio de Janeiro and across the globe. Its sound is a balance of moods and textures: The crystalline clarity of the vibraphone is crossed with the husky introspection of the tenor saxophone, lively sparks from nylon-string guitar are animated by the crisp pulse of percussion. In its review of This Is Ensemble Novo, The Vinyl District raved that Ensemble Novo puts "a playful spin on some of the world’s most welcoming music, Brazilian pop from the 1960s and 1970s. The music is executed with a jazz touch and musical virtuosity by musicians who may not be household names, but deserve to be.
