We are delighted to welcome Jiryis Murkus Ballan to Al-Bustan for a live musical performance as part of 2nd Thursday at Al-Bustan Gallery—TOMORROW starting at 7pm! Attendees will also have the chance to check out zami’s exhibition “Imprints of Time and Place”. Al Bustan Seeds of Culture, 310 Master St, Philadelphia, PA 19122 Jiryis Murkus Ballan is a Palestinian composer and buzuq player from Nazareth in the Galilee region. With a Ph.D. in Integrated Composition, Improvisation, and Technology (ICIT) from the University of California, Irvine, Jiryis’s work explores the dynamic intersections between traditional Levantine music and contemporary sound manipulation. His compositions often engage dancers, integrating sound design, motion sensors, and electroacoustic compositions. Jiryis has bridged cultural divides through transcultural music projects such as the Caravan Orchestra and project, and Tijwal ensemble. This event is free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $10. |
