60 Years Ago, Dr. King Stood Here.
On August 3rd, We Gather Again.
We’re thrilled to invite you to the Freedom Now Fest, happening Sunday, August 3rd, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Lancaster Avenue between 38th and 40th Streets in West Philadelphia.
This powerful event commemorates the 60th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Freedom Now” Rally speech, delivered right here in our neighborhood as part of his 1965 Freedom Now Tour. This moment in history wasn’t just about civil rights—it was about collective power, community voice, and the future we build together.
Now, six decades later, we’re honoring that moment with a full day of celebration, reflection, and activation.
What to Expect: Live performances & community tributes on two stages “Then & Now” photo installation honoring Black Bottom residents Pop-up shops featuring Black-owned businesses Delicious bites from the Avenue of the Eats food truck zone Children’s storytelling, music, and games Free medical testing, hair & scalp exams, and wellness services Art exhibitions & film screenings focused on MLK, Black Philly history, and civil rights Shop The Ave deals from local stores And a Walking Tour sign-up to explore MLK’s legacy in West Philly Plus a Freedom Night Fit Party hosted by Body Rock Bootcamp — a high-energy celebration of movement, wellness, and unity before the big day!
