PNC Arts Alive Jazz Cultural Voices Series Presents:
VERTICAL CURRENT
*THIS SATURDAY* February 21 - 7:30pm
PNC Arts Alive Jazz Cultural Voices Series is excited to raise the roof with Philly-based Vertical Current. Founded in 2019 by trumpeter Christopher Michael Stevens, Vertical Current blends soul, jazz, and gospel with undeniable energy and incredible musicianship. They’ve become the go-to backing band for artists like Chrisette Michele and Frank McComb, and have opened for stars including Robert Glasper and Raheem DeVaughn. Their sound is as electric as the city they call home.
Over the course of five albums, “aRe” (2011), “Bright Side Of Midnight” (2014), “After Midnight” (2017), “The Future Is Bright” (2018), “The Rain” (feat. Khari Mateen) (Single) (2022), and “A Vertical Current Christmas” (2024), Vertical Current has uplifted and inspired audiences with strong melodies and funky rhythms showcasing the many ways this ensemble gets down. Individually, members have toured and recorded with legends like Roberta Flack, John Legend, Jill Scott, and The Roots — experiences that fuel the band’s dynamic, high-level performances.
Get ready for an unforgettable night as Vertical Current brings their signature blend of groove, spirit, and soul to the Clef Club stage. Expect a performance that will lift you up as high as their name suggests—proof that the future of soul and jazz is shining bright here in Philly.
