"If you have never danced to a live Latin band, you have never danced salsa.”
- Jesse Bermudez, Salsa Caliente co-producer
I'm with Jesse on this one. While I appreciate the skill of a good DJ, nothing quite matches the live music experience, when the artists and the audience exchange positive energy! Every live performance is unique, and you will leave feeling glad you were there.
Salsa Caliente! celebrates Three Kings Day and Puerto Rican Christmas with Philly’s hottest Latin singer and performer, Anthony Colon. Get your Salsa Dura on with dance lessons by Flaco at 8 p.m. Salsa Caliente! is Philly’s exclusive salsa nightlife series offering an environment for all walks of life to immerse themselves in authentic Latin music culture.

¡Hola mis amigos! Behold: the release my first full-length CD: "de Tierra Caliente." All attendees get a free copy of the CD at the door :)
Friday, December 20 at the Clubhouse
Doors at 8, show at 9pm
w/ Tierra Caliente (my band), Ryan Tennis & Saboricua Latin Jazz
$15 Apoyo Cultural
After 2 and half years of on/off recording, I'm thrilled to bring you this CD of songs written during my 3.5-year South American musical adventure/exploration. I recorded with 3 producers in 3 different countries, and the CD features artists from Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and the US. It has all kinds of musical rhythms and intentions, and I'm quite proud of the final product.
I'll open the show solo with a brief set of acoustic songs from my CD, right at 9. Ryan and a cohort or two will follow with a delightful set of his music.
Then my band, Tierra Caliente, will get the dance party started with Latin, Brazilian and other spicy rhythms. Feel the heat and get to know the CD!
One of Philly's hottest Latin Jazz orchestras, Saboricua, will close out the night. My percussionist/producer, Papo Buda, is the founder of this band, and they're the real deal, fresh out of Puerto Rico, North Philadelphia.
Late night jams are sure to follow. Bring your dancing shoes. As usual, we will provide snacks and drinks of all kind.

Blackalicious
Blackalicious
In a hip-hop career that has stretched past a decade, Blackalicious has earned respect the old-fashioned way–rising through honesty, commitment, and artistry. Blackalicious is an American hip hop duo from Sacramento, California made up of rapper Gift of Gab (born Tim Parker) and DJ/producer Chief Xcel (born Xavier Mosley). They are noted for Gift of Gab’s often “tongue-twisting”, multisyllabic, complex rhymes and Chief Xcel’s “classic” beats.
Like a few other West Coast rap acts, including the Pharcyde andJurassic 5, Blackalicious has generally favored what hip-hoppers call the “positive tip”; in other words, its lyrics have often been spiritual and uplifting rather than violent or misogynous. Like a lot of experimental alternative rappers, Blackalicious can be quirky and eccentric; nonetheless, spirituality is a big part of the group’s music.
Lushlife
Lushlife
South Philly rapper-producer Lushlife juxtaposes '90s east coast flow and chamber-pop textures with an air of indie experimentation, making Dilla, My Bloody Valentine, and Drake feel like they’re part of one perfectly-connected lineage. His 2011 mixtape 'No More Golden Days' explored increasingly eccentric sonic territory, and was praised by Pitchfork, Okayplayer, and many others, while his most recent LP, 'Plateau Vision' (Western Vinyl), was included on numerous 2012 year-end lists from the likes of Stereogum and taste-making radio stations like KCRW and KEXP. Lush's performances are a tour de force one-man show that melds live instrumentation, verifiable spitting, and jaw-dropping projected visuals. Lushlife is currently putting the finishing touches on a genre-bending LP featuring Shabazz Palaces, Ariel Pink, Deniro Farrar, and more.
