Grammy winner Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra return to Lafayette College for a performance 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26 at the Williams Center for the Arts.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at http://williamscenter.lafayette.edu/performance-series-2/jazz-masters/ or by calling the box office at (610) 330-5009 from noon to 2 p.m., and 4 to 5 p.m. on weekdays, plus one hour before the performance.
In its two previous Williams Center performances, the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra saluted the great big band traditions of Cuba and its enduring musical influences throughout contemporary jazz. Bandleader and pianist Arturo O’Farrill formed ALJO in 2002 to preserve the treasure trove of charts and arrangements from the past, while pioneering new music and fresh compositions by today’s top musical talents.
This impeccable repertory and exemplary big band musicianship have garnered Arturo and the ALJO a slew of awards, including his 2006 Grammy for A Song for Chico, in tribute to legendary bandleader—and his father—Chico O’Farrill. Critical accolades and audience fervor greet the band wherever it is heard.
Funding support for Lafayette’s Jazz Masters series is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts. WDIY 88.1 FM is media sponsor for this event.
