Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, Meet the Author Series presents Cuban filmmaker Gloria Rolando
"Breaking the Silence" (Part I of III) reveals the hidden story of black soldiers after the Cuban revolution of 1912, giving voice to those who gave up their lives for an ideal, in the midst of injustice, discrimination, and abuse. The second work shown will be "Jazz and Us".
Both documentaries are in Spanish with English subtitles. The presentation will be in Spanish with English translation. The event is free. Refreshments will be served.

Dos muestras de su trabajo documental tratan aspectos de la realidad afro-cubana. "Voces para un Silencio" revela la historia de los afro-cubanos en la revolución del 1912, quienes sacrifican sus vidas por un ideal, encontrándose con injusticia, discriminación y abuso. El segundo trabajo se titula "El Jaz y Nosotros".
La presentación será en español. El evento es gratis. Se servirán refrigerios.
