Monday, February 16 will mark the third annual day of arts education learning, fun and a combined performance among 250 young instrumentalists and singers from across the Philadelphia region. The Philadelphia Festival of Young Musicians (PFYM) is made possible through the collaboration of dedicated and respected community music organizations working in concert with the School District of Philadelphia. The PFYM concert at 5PM is free and open to the public. Ukee Washington, CBS 3 Eyewitness News This Morning and The CW Philly news anchor and co-host of Talk Philly on CBS 3, will serve as emcee for the day-long learning event which will begin at 9 AM. Students of all backgrounds from across Philadelphia will meet and rehearse together in sectionals, and then come together for a combined performance in Verizon Hall at 5 PM on Monday, February 16. Created in 2012 and sponsored by The Samuel S. Fels Fund, The Philadelphia Festival of Young Musicians was the result of an energetic collaboration of leading community music education organizations serving youth in the Philadelphia region. The Philadelphia Music Alliance for Youth (PMAY), which formed following the success of the inaugural festival, will continue to invest significant resources, time, and expertise in an effort to work collaboratively to best serve students of the Philadelphia region and within the School District of Philadelphia. This year The Philadelphia Orchestra and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts have joined PMAY to give the wonderful opportunity for students to rehearse and perform in such an important cultural venue for Philadelphia. Through PMAY, all of these organizations hope to highlight the importance of and support for music and arts education in the Philadelphia School District. Participating institutions include: • Artistas y Músicos Latino Americanos (AMLA) • Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts • Musicopia • Pennsylvania Girlchoir and Keystone State Boychoir • Philadelphia Boys Choir • The Philadelphia Orchestra • The Philadelphia School District • Philadelphia Sinfonia Association • Philadelphia Youth Orchestra & Tune Up Philly • Play On, Philly! • Settlement Music School • Sister Cities Girlchoir • Temple University Music Preparatory Division
