November 22, 2019 7:00PM Film Screening: "Mother Dot's Philadelphia" at Scribe Video

Ryan Saunders is an award winning independent documentary filmmaker with deep roots in Philadelphia Collaborative Community Media. In his over 20 year relationship with Scribe Video Center, Saunders has taught numerous workshops and participated in various community history projects. “We are perhaps entrenched in the ‘4th wave’ of the Information Age, but the third wave highlighted a serious gap in information and technology that continues to leave many communities behind,” said Saunders when asked why he got involved with community media activism. “My involvement with Scribe showed me that there were communities of people who wanted to tell their stories, be it personal or about their communities.” In 2010, Saunders joined Philadelphia’s public access television network, PhillyCAM, as Technical Director. Born on the twin-island state of Trinidad & Tobago in the Caribbean, his more personal film work explores the history, culture and experiences of Caribbean immigrants in North America.
