Enjoy an evening of art, live music, film, cocktails, and light fare at our monthly First Friday! mixer. Tonight’s program is presented in partnership with the Philadelphia Latino Film Festival—the region’s only festival showcasing the extraordinary and innovative work of emerging and established Latinx filmmakers.
Our collaboration with PHLAFF brings renowned Cuban singer/songwriter Daymé Arocena, hailed by NPR as “a magical mash-up of the Queen of Latin Music, Celia Cruz, and the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.” Tonight, Arocena presents Treinta Vueltas Al Sol (Thirty Laps Around the Sun), a vocal and piano performance, alongside excerpts from Sunlight Around the Corner: The Golden Sparrow, her short film codirected with visual artist Pablo Dewin.
Then, El Laberinto del Coco close out the evening with an electrifying set. Percussionist Hector “Coco” Barez and his all-star band create a dazzling blend of genres—come ready to dance to their jazz, funk, Afrobeat, and flamenco sounds!
