April 30, 2023 El Carnaval de Puebla en Philadelphia presents El Carnaval en Huejotzingo

 

En esta festividad los habitantes del municipio rememoran año con año tres acontecimientos reales o míticos que han influido y transformado las actividades cotidianas de la población, estos acontecimientos corresponden al primer matrimonió entre naturales por el rito católico en la nueva España, el rapto de la hija del corregidor por el mítico bandolero Agustín Lorenzo y la lucha contra la intervención francesa, este último acontecimiento transformó las actividades de esta festividad, donde se sustituyeron bailes por la inclusión de grupos que recuerdan a los batallones que participaron en la batalla del 5 de mayo de 1862 en Puebla.

In this festival, the inhabitants of the municipality commemorate year after year three real or mythical events that have influenced and transformed the daily activities of the population. These events correspond to the first marriage between natives by the Catholic rite in New Spain, the kidnapping of the daughter of the corregidor by the mythical bandit Agustín Lorenzo, and the fight against the French intervention. This last event transformed the activities of this festival, where dances were replaced by the inclusion of groups that remember the battalions that participated in the battle of May 5, 1862 in Puebla.

"Thousands of celebrants, or “carnavaleros,” will first gather at 9 a.m. at 2300 Croskey St. between 22nd and 23rd Streets. Then at 12:30 p.m., a parade will begin, marching north from 22nd Street up to Washington Avenue. It will procede east to Sacks Playground, where the celebration continues with live music and food until 6 p.m."
