On November 20th at 7:30 PM, French trumpeter and Fulbright scholar Fabien Enger and Philadelphia prodigy Justin Griggs will perform at the Black Squirrel to celebrate the release of their album Off the Seabed, out on Inner Urge Records. They’ll be joined by master percussionist Shakoor Hakeem, whose dynamic rhythms add an intense, energetic edge to the trio.
The performance will feature music from the album alongside fresh improvisations influenced by each artist’s roots: the exploratory spirit of European jazz, the soulful harmonies of gospel, West-African and Afro-Cuban rhythms, and the expressive freedom of avant-garde jazz. Fabien’s bold trumpet lines, Shakoor’s powerful percussion, and Justin’s inventive keyboard work create a richly layered, genre-blending soundscape.
Catch them live before their European tour next summer—don’t miss this chance to experience some of today’s top voices in Philadelphia and international jazz.
This project is supported by a CPCA Vice Provost for the Arts Student Grant from Temple University.
