We are throwing a Latine Celebration! Hosted by your favorite guest star, Natasha Sebastiani from The Ultimatum: Queer Love, and the founder of ZamDance, Jackie Zamora. The night includes performances by:

- Danza Azteca: Traditional Indigenous dance from Mexico

- Live Music: Original songs from James Haro

Ending with a dance party hosted by DJ Robinette Jones! Raffles and Karaoke will be strung throughout the night so get ready to sing your favorite songs and bid on some awesome prizes. All proceeds will go to The Nichos team who are creating a play about the Mexican Migrant community in Philadelphia. Celebrate and help these stories get told on stage!

FORAGER @NOTSOLATIN FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 15!

FORAGER makes kaleidoscopic pop for musical omnivores. A Brooklyn-based trio with motley musical heritage—rock, jazz, Afro-Cuban, Indian classical—the band has crafted a novel sound that satisfies the ear and subverts expectations. NPR's Bobby Carter called FORAGER's music "buttery" and "complex," remarking, "where have you been all my life?"

Formed in 2021, FORAGER flirts with slinky R&B vocal runs, buoyant funk grooves, surprising harmonic leaps, and confessional pop hooks, but never fully surrenders to one genre. Themes range from climate destruction to overly talkative friends, always with intimate specificity and a wink of self-awareness.

FORAGER has built a local following on the strength of their live show, packing beloved New York venues like Baby’s All Right and the Knitting Factory. Their debut album, Pipedream Firewood, arrived on August 18.

Chasing LOVE: a Welcoming Week Global Cultural Celebration

Join us at LOVE Park on September 14, 4-6pm, for a FREE event featuring music by DJ Foxy, artists from BalletX and Mad Beatz Philly, and art-making activities led by Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture, with special guest Little Amal, a 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl and global symbol of refugee rights.

Chasing LOVE follows Little Amal on a journey down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, accompanied by dancers from BalletX and musicians from Mad Beatz Philly, to retrieve her heart-shaped necklace, created by artist Ife Nii-Owoo. The Walk begins outside of the Rodin Museum and ends at LOVE Park with a playlist of love-themed music by DJ Foxy, an all-ages art-making activity led by Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture, heart-shaped giveaways, cookies, and more.

All are invited to show Amal how truly welcome she, and all refugees, are in Philadelphia: the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection.

There are three ways to join Little Amal’s journey beginning at 4:00 p.m.:

• Meet Little Amal outside of the Rodin Museum to follow her procession down the Parkway, with BalletX and Mad Beatz Philly;

• Wait at locations along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and help build the procession behind Little Amal; OR

• Gather at LOVE Park, with DJ Foxy and Al-Bustan, to welcome Little Amal to her concluding celebration in Philadelphia!

The event will be filmed and photographed by THE OFFICE performing arts+film.

La Banda Chuska are re-imagining the vintage sounds of Peruvian cumbia and surf through the lens of their New York City home and diverse musical and cultural backgrounds (Peru, PR, Argentina, USA). They take inspiration from the twangy 1960s surf bands of Lima (Los Belkings, Los Siderals) as well as the psychedelic flavors of 1970s chicha (Los Destellos, Los Orientales de Paramonga). Their post-punk energy and subversive playfulness have also evoked comparisons to a tropical version of the B-52s. The band has been playing their dancey and experimental tunes around NYC for two years, building up a loyal local following through a monthly residency at Brooklyn's Barbès and opening for touring groups including Meridian Brothers and Son Rompe Pera. They played the Brooklyn Museum’s first Saturday in October to celebrate Latinx history month and have performed at The Sultan Room, TV Eye, and the SoundWaves Festival at White Feather Farm, among others. They have self-released their debut vía Bandcamp y cassette and are about to record their first LP. With Adele Fournet on keys/vocals, Felipe Wurst and Sam Day Harmet on guitars, Erica Mancini on accordion/vocals, Abe Pollack on bass, and Joel Mateo on drums.

We're offering youth programming through our " A Parade in a Day" cultural project teaching Philadelphia youth about parade culture traditions, music, and pageantry/regalia in Brazil and New Orleans.

Feria promotes the work of community organizations that have served our neighborhood for decades, it’s a space where artists can share their creativity and the community can come together to celebrate our culture. Immerse in the Indonesian culture at The Island Country, Philadelphia's 2023 Indonesian Festival by Gapura. The outdoor festival will feature local traditional artists, authentic Indonesian dishes, folk games, prizes as well as the Indonesian singing group Ana Timur. The event will start at 11 am until 4 pm. Public and street parking are available or you can take an hourly shuttle from Pendawa Cafe at 16th and Morris.

This year, the festival will be filled with amazing talents from Philadelphia, Florida, Rhode Island, Harrisburg, and all the way from the east side of Indonesia. The multicultural South African band of Sharon Katz & The Peace Train helped Nelson Mandela end Apartheid and have continued spreading their message of peace and reconciliation through performances and workshops in festivals, educational settings and concert halls around the world.

Nominated for the Grammy’s “Best World Music Album,” the group made history in 1992 when they formed South Africa’s first, 500-voice multiracial choir and then organized a courageous tour on board a train –The Peace Train – to promote a peaceful transition to democracy. When CNN filmed Sharon jumping out of a helicopter with her guitar in a remote area, to teach the rural people about the voting process through song, Sharon Katz & The Peace Train were propelled into an international career that has spanned three continents and coast-to-coast US appearances.

Now based in the US, the versatile group of musicians, singers, dancers and workshop leaders educate and thrill audiences of all ages and sizes. Their pulsating rhythms, rich harmonies, guitar-driven maskanda and mbaqanga melodies, spine-tingling Zulu dances, funky basslines, Afro-jazz horn lines, intricate drum patterns, and compelling lyrics tell South Africa’s story - past and present.

As host of the 6abc television show “Puerto Rican Panorama” from 1970 to 2018, as well as co-host of the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade in our city, Diego was a consistent presence and reminder of the many facets of the Latino community in Philadelphia. Diego was also a journalist, an educator, and an author, among other accomplishments.  We lost Diego in 2022, but his impact is still felt in the community and no doubt will continue to be felt for many years to come. An open mic session will enable Diego’s family and the community at large to share their experiences of how he affected their lives. There will be antojitos to snack on, a time for networking, and music to keep us in a festive mood!
