January 3, 2014 5:00-8:45 PM South African Dance Party with Bakithi Kumalo at Art After Five

South African Dance Party
Bakithi Kumalo, who recently moved to Bethlehem from Long Island, is one of the world's premiere fretless bass players. With his electric, fretless bass, Bakithi Kumalo creates a sound teeming with double stops that evoke human voices and the grooves of his South African homeland. He has worked with artists such as Gloria Estefan, Herbie Hancock, Laurie Anderson, Chaka Khan, Harry Belafonte, Mickey Hart and Planet Drum, Cyndi Lauper, Joan Baez, Grover Washington Jr., Bob James, Randy Brecker, Samite and, most famously, Paul Simon.
