Summer Series w/ Marc Ribot's The Young Philadelphians & Monica McIntyre
40th Street Summer Series on June 18
The Young Philadelphians w/ opener Monica McIntyre
On Saturday, June 18, Marc Ribot's The Young Philadelphians will bring their blend of mind-blowing harmolodic punk-funk and the sweet, optimistic pulse of 1970s Philly soul to rock 40th Street. Marc Ribot enlists Prime Time alumni and Philadelphia natives, bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma, drummer G. Calvin Weston and guitarist Bern Nix, along with a lush 3-piece string section to form the hardest working musicians in punk/funk/soul/ and noise. They will be joined by Monica "Spirit" McIntyre, a Gender Non-Conforming Cellist, Vocalist, Lyricist, Wellness Advocate, Sound Healer, Reiki Practitioner, Mover and Visual Artist who promotes empowerment and healing by any medium necessary.
6pm at 40th & Walnut St (Field on 40th Street between Walnut and Locust, behind the Walnut West Free Library)
Each summer UCD, Penn, and The Rotunda host free outdoor concerts and performances that capture the soul of the neighborhood. This family-friendly event will also feature free samples from Ben & Jerry's and Honeygrow (both while supplies last), plus face painting, balloon animals, juggling, and more!
