September 4, 2017 10:00-11:30AM Dancing for Justice Philly/Flyground Coming Together Session

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
All levels of movement are welcome. People with specialized or mixed ability are welcome. All children are welcome. Children who can write independently and move through intergenerational spaces independently will be able to participate without assistance. Children who are younger developmentally will need assistance from parents or caregivers.

FlyGround’s Dancing for Justice Philadelphia Initiative or DFJ Philly | FlyGround will provide a Coming Together Session to individually and collectively process the state of our U.S. racial relations and the continuum of violence as an answer to difference in our societal interactions. We will also utilize diasporic movement practices descedent from black/African peoples and cultures as a socially-immersive, community-building foundation geared towards centering movement as a place of individual and collective consciousness. The session will be facilitated by Lela Aisha Jones.

This offering is in response to the 2017 aquittal of the police officer who killed Philando Castille in Minnesota, the killing of 15-year old Jordan Edwards in Texas in April 2017, the recent 2017 Charlottesville VA White Supremacy March, and countless everyday visible/invisible racial violences against humanity in the U.S.
