FlyGround’s Dancing for Justice Philadelphia Initiative or DFJ Philly | FlyGround will provide a Release + Restoration Session for People of Color Only to individually and collectively check-in with our connection to the lived experiences that reside in and arise from our bodies due to the current U.S. racial and social climate. This is a movement-based session where participants will embody diasporic movement practices descendent from black/African peoples and cultures as socially-immersive, community-building foundations. This session is geared towards centering movement as a place of recalibrating the body with restorative practices regarding facing various states of racial violence everyday while also honing the sensibilities offered by the natural environment to expand beyond a human orientation to existence.
This offering is in response to the 2017 aquittal of the police officer who killed Philando Castille in Minnesota, the killing of 15-year old Jordan Edwards in Texas in April 2017, the recent 2017 Charlottesville VA White Supremacy March, and countless everyday visible/invisible racial violences against humanity in the U.S.
