March 30, 2019 1:00-8:00PM "Nowruz" Persian Festival at Penn Museum

Women dancing in costume
Nowruz, or “new day” in Persian, is an ancient festival marking the beginning of spring and is observed by people in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and beyond. Join the Penn Museum for a celebration in two parts. From 1:00 – 5:00, enjoy performances by the Silk Road Dance Company and the Turkish American Friendship Society of the US (TAFSUS) Choir. Get creative with calligraphy workshops, take a tour of the Middle East Galleries, and watch Persian short films. After 5:00, sway to the beats of Iranian folk music and dance and enjoy live music with DJ Yavaran while sipping on a cocktail or two. Shop at our Persian bazaar, view the half-sin display, and decorate traditional eggs at any point throughout the day.
This event is presented in partnership with Shabahang Iranian Cultural Society of America and Penn Middle East Center. Food and drink will be available for purchase.
1:00 - 5:00 pm—family friendly fun, free with Museum admission.
5:00 - 8:00 pm—$15; $10, Penn Museum members.
