On 8/26, Sharon and Marilyn are heading back to the West Coast to continue their Transcending Barriers project with youth in the Tijuana-San Diego region with funding from the San Diego Foundation and in partnership with Promotora de las Bellas Artes.

We're so grateful to have the support of the US Consulate in Tijuana, the South African Consulate in Los Angeles, and the Mexican Embassy in South Africa as we continue this important work.

Just like the rhythms and voices from Cuba, South Africa, Mexico and USA that swirl, meet, are influenced, and change from the musical encounters on this album, so do our human relationships.

Featured Track this week is #5, the title track: We Can Be The Change featuring special guests Coro Orfeon from Cuba

Music and lyrics by by Sharon Katz, Malcolm Nhleko and Nonhlanhla Wanda.

This recording blends the rallying cry from our anti-Apartheid work in South Africa, our current Transcending Barriers project on the border between Mexico and the USA, and our 2019 tour in Cuba. It features the choral group Coro Orfeon, conducted by our dear friend and colleague Daria Abreu Feraud. Sharon wrote the original track for The Peace Train’s 2016 tour, “Putting the United Back in the USA.” It was the vision then, as it still is now, to communicate to the younger generation that we absolutely must commit ourselves to social justice. If we do not believe that things can change and act with conviction and commitment, then nothing will ever change. Sharon Katz & The Peace Train have been dedicated to the ending of violence and racism in society since we formed in 1992 in South Africa. A luta continua! (The struggle continues!)
