On August 20, we are bringing the islands to you! Join us for the 37th Annual Philadelphia Caribbean Festival for a day full of island culture.
A rich celebration of 14 Caribbean islands will treat you to a wholesome family fun in a beautiful atmosphere with a line up of authentic island sounds of reggae, roots international beat, hip-hop and gospel, poetry, island skits and creative on-stage dances, the pulsating sound of the steel band; all that’s complimented by a marketplace of Caribbean fashions, souvenirs, arts and craft. additionally, a “tings” Caribbean workshop; and a children’s corner with exciting things to do.
Fragrant Aromas will surround the great plaza at Penn’s landing as vendors prepare a variety of island cuisine-jerk chicken and rice/peas, curried goat/chicken, codfish cakes, escovitched fish and “festival” bakes, roti, Caribbean slaw, Roasted corn, to name a few. While quenching your thirst with Island Lemonade, Ginger Beer, Coconut Water, Island punch in a dugout pineapple, you name it.
Featured performers include Kenny Sykes (Jazz), Julius (Soca), Tabernacle Reggae Band, Freedom Choir of Phila Ensemble (Gospel), Riddem Nation Band (Roots Rock Reggae), Bahamian Juliene Believe (Soca) Haitian Gwo Koze (Kompo music, WeUnited Band (Soca) Image Band (internationally known, from Washington, D.C.). MC for this special day will be DJ Scripture (WKDU 91.7 FM) who opens up with Devotional Remarks.
