September 22, 2023 7:30PM De Cerca at Esperanza Arts Center

 


Philadelphia, PA – Join us in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month with our 3rd annual co-presentation of De Cerca in partnership with Philadelphia Ballet. De Cerca – comes to Esperanza Arts Center on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 7:30pm. The event will be held at Teatro Esperanza, 4261 N. 5th Street. Admission is $15, and Students/Seniors are free.

 De Cerca spotlights Latin women artists and is part of Esperanza Arts Center’s 2023/2024 VOCES Series. The evening will premiere a new film, Moving Words, directed by Glenn Holsten and choreographed by Tommie Waheed-Evans in collaboration with Philadelphia Ballet dancers Zecheng Liang and Thays GolzMoving Words blends movement, picture and sound in innovative ways to reflect the drama of everyday life in the city that 1,603,797 people call home. It is filmed on location in Philadelphia.

The program will also feature an uplifting 50’s era inspired piece, On Cloud 9, created by Artistic Director Angel Corella, as well as classical variations performed by Philadelphia Ballet company dancers. After the performance, join Philadelphia Ballet Latin women artists for a bilingual conversation moderated by Blanca Huertas-Agnew, Dance Program Director at Drexel University, Founder and Artistic Director of the Puerto Rico Classical Dance Competition, and former Philadelphia Ballet faculty member.

Tickets: $15 + $2.35 fee 

Students and seniors free
