Jazz Concert for Desmond Tutu and An Arrival Day Celebration for Elliott Levin featuring the AfroJazz Collective and Elliott Levin & Friends

Bishop Desmond Tutu was a prominent figure in the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. After the end of apartheid Nelson Mandela appointed him as the leader of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission which investigated abuses during the apartheid era. Bert Harris is a bassist from Philadelphia performing World music, Jazz, Ska, Funk and Reggae. The AfroJazz Collective was formed by Bert as a dedication to the great South African jazz by composers of the pre- and post apartheid era. South African jazz is a distinctive jazz genre blending musical elements of South Africa and American Jazz. The AfroJazz Collective will play compositions by South African jazz greats such as Abdullah Ibrahim, Johnny Dyani, Bheki Meseleku, Winston Ngozi and others. We will pay tribute to Desmond Tutu by performing jazz from his homeland.
