March 22, 2012 Premiere of film "Tango Macbeth" at the Painted Bride Art Center

Maybe you read Macbeth in high school or college and studied the story of a commander named Macbeth who-with the help of his wife- killed family, friends, women and children to ascend to the throne of Scotland. You may think you know what will happen in our film version Tango Macbeth. Think again.

Synopsis: A theater company rehearses Macbeth at an old theater in Philadelphia. A documentary film crew follows them during the rehearsal process. Occasionally the actors become lost in Shakespeare’s world. This blend of intense drama, dance and humor is a refreshing take on Shakespeare’s classic text.

Quote from noted author Lorene Cary about the project: “Tango promises to bring out the extraordinary power of Lady Macbeth’s role, which will help viewers explore questions of shared responsibility for and profits from evil. This film will make a great contribution to the canon. It will also add an extraordinary opportunity for teachers and learners to find new paths into the Shakespearean classic.”
A documentary film crew follows the creation of a new dance theater film piece called Tango Macbeth. Actors come from all over the U. S. and abroad. Occasionally the cast gets lost in Shakespeare’s intense drama. Nadine Patterson directs her narrative feature film debut. Starring Alexandra Bailey, and Brian Anthony Wilson. Music by Lenny Seidman.
