October 5, 2014 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM Onehunted Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month at The Barnes Foundation

From "Keeping you In the Loop", AfroTaino Productions' newsletter:

"You're invited to join us for a special "Onehunted" Day Party in partnership with The Barnes Foundation celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Hosted by Philly's own Ethel Cee, the Onehunted Day Party will celebrate the changing of the season and offer an opportunity to learn about Latin music styles, deftly executed by the groovy sounds of Luke Carlos O'Reilly & Sofrito. Guests also get to shimmy & shake to the Afro-Latin sounds of DJ Rahsaan (AfroTaino Productions).

Onehunted sets out to bridge the gap between smart consumers and ethically-sourced products. By curating digital and physical experiences, their mission is to help good people and good brands connect to create a healthier, happier, more happening planet. Let’s get happy, everyone."

SCHEDULE OF THE DAY'S EVENTS

1–2 pm Raíces Culturales Latinoamericanas
The Johnny Cruz Latin Jazz Ensemble provides a history of Puerto Rican folk music, preserving the sound of Afro-Cuban and tropical rhythms which originated from the neighborhood known as "El Barrio de Oro.”

2:10–2:40 pm Gilberto González talk
Gilberto González is the senior graphic designer at the Community College of Philadelphia, and an author, painter, filmmaker, and community activist. A native of Philadelphia’s Spring Garden neighborhood, González’s fictional memoirs Three Rings and Three Rings 2 capture the flavor of growing up in the ’hood through interpersonal relationships and powerfully painted urban landscapes. An accomplished artist, González works to change the face of art in North Philadelphia through non-traditional events like Noches de Art en el Barrio and Girard Nights. His documentaries, such as Cuentos, preserve the rich history of Puerto Ricans in Spring Garden while exploring the impact of gentrification in this community. González has received a number of acknowledgements for his art and activism, including Concilio’s 2013 Community Activist of the Year, and recognition as one of 2013’s 50 Most Influential Latinos in the Delaware Valley.

2:40–3:10 pm book signing
With Gilberto Gonzalez and Loraine Ballard Morrill, news and community affairs director of WDAS

2:40–3 pm John Dewey’s influence on Dr. Barnes

The party is hosted by Philly’s own Kamilah "Ethel Cee" Clarke. In partnership with Onehunted.
