The University of the Arts hosts the second edition of Philadelphia International Hand Drumming Day. Organized by Grammy Award-winning percussionist/composer, faculty member and alumnus Arturo Stable MM '10 (Jazz Studies), the event features master classes, concerts, panels and drum circles showcasing a wide range of drumming styles both local and international.
Philadelphia International Hand Drumming Day is free to audiences of all ages and will be streamed live for music lovers from all around the world. Its primary goal is to showcase Philadelphia’s rich drumming traditions and establish the city as a leading drumming force with much to offer to students and hand drum lovers. The day-long festival definitely proves to be a feast for percussion lovers, starting with a morning Arab percussion master class (led by master doumbek player Hafez Kotain) and leading into a mid-day cajon drum circle, led by Arturo Stable.) But after the panel discussions & workshops come to a close, all roads lead to the all-star concert later that evening.
At 7PM, you simply cannot miss the Cuban Dance Party Concert, as Arturo Stable presents a tribute to the world-famous Buena Vista Social Club, featuring a lineup of Cuban music & Latin jazz greats like Joaquin Pozo, Pablo Moya, Rudyck Vidal, and special guest Elio Villafranca. AfroTaino Productions is a proud co-sponsor of this historical event.
