From AfroTaino Productions' newsletter, "Keeping You in the Loop":
"MIJO DE LA PALMA – THE 21ST CENTURY ANSWER TO ROY BROWN IS HERE
Ojo, Boricua - This one is for you. Mijo de la Palma was born out of the eclectic musical scene in the western side of Puerto Rico. Their creative sound merges the earthy, melancholic lament of jíbaro with upbeat alt-pop melodies, resulting in their trademark Fusión jíbara. This blend of poetry and musical textures redefines the sounds of contemporary Puerto Rican music and provides the new generations with music intimately linked to their strong heritage. Besides all over his home island, Mijo de la Palma has performed stateside in San Francisco, Orlando, and throughout New England. Internationally, they’ve toured Spain and Mexico, where they were chosen to present at the prestigious 2011 TED Conference in San Miguel de Allende. In the states, they have performed frequently in San Francisco, Hartford, Bridgeport, Cambridge, Orlando and at the Passage Theater in New Jersey. Lead singer/director Melvin López Rivera (guitar and main vocals) will be joined by Adaliz Ortiz (backing vocals), Mario Schambon (percussion) and Billy Carrion (sax and flute), as well as Philly’s own Daniel de Jesus. AfroTaino Productions is a proud promotional partner of their Philly debut of their ‘Canto’e Jibaro’ US Summer Tour. Once again, this promises to be another magical night at A Seed on Diamond Gallery."
