Trumpet legend Hugh Masekela, singularly famous for Grazin’ in the Grass, introduced the remarkable music of South Africa to the world at large. But he spent the formative years of his music training at the Manhattan School of Music learning the essence of jazz with the likes of Donald Byrd, Herbie Hancock and long time friend and veteran pianist Larry Willis.

Willis, who has been side man to such jazz heavies as Wynton Marsalis, Lee Morgan and Jackie McClean, joins Masekela to look back at some of the timeless jazz standards which Willis describes as “a culmination of a 50 year musical and personal brotherhood…it is all those days and nights of jam sessions…sharing our hopes, dreams, plans, the time spent soaking in all the music of New York City jazz clubs.”
