May 21, 2016 7:00 PM Muevete: Samba Dance Lesson and Fandango at The Cannery

This is a very exciting, albeit last minute scheduled Cannery Event! Muevete: Dance, Music + potluck!
Muevete: Dance and Music for the Soul
We will be hosting Rachel Sherman from Alo Brasil for a beginner Samba Lesson from 7-8pm.

Once the blood gets flowing and we bruise some toes, the Philly Son Jarocho group, Son Revoltura will be hosting a Fandango from 8pm into the night...

Son Jarocho is a regional style of music from Veracruz, Mexico that connects protest songs and dance with community participation. Come hear from some of the organizers how this form has been adpated and practiced here in Philly and how this practice combines storytelling, music and dance for resistance and community building.

Check out their Facebook page here:

They are hosting events all next weekend if you want to catch other opportunities to learn about this tradition and culture of community building through music:

A fandango is a 'jam session' with jarana players, song and zapateando (a form of tap dance). All ages are welcome!

Join us early for some dance and stay late in to the night enjoying the high energy music and spirit of Son Jarocho.
Admission: Donation (pay what you wish)
