June 22 & 23, 2018 Philadelphia Juneteenth Musicfest & Parade


You hear the beat of the drums, the trumpets sounding and dancers strutting… Juneteenth is coming, Juneteenth is coming. The Juneteenth MusicFest and Parade returns to the birthplace of America, our great city of Philadelphia on June 22 – 23, 2018. People will experience the rich tradition and culture and enduring spirit of African Americans with the 2018 Juneteenth MusicFest & Parade.
The event, now expanded to two-days, begins on Friday, June 22nd with a Cultural Caravan Tours, Voices of Freedom Gospel Choir, Honoring the Ancestor’s Wreath Ceremony and All that Jazz Concert and culminating on Saturday June 23rd with the melodic Juneteeth Musicfest and Parade with a viewing stand between 5th & 6th on Market and televised live by 6 ABC. The Market Place and MusicFest at The Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States.
Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Come be a part of Philadelphia’s rich African American history.
