June 23 - August 11, 2018 1:00-2:30PM Afro-Cuban Technique Dance Classes at Sound Space

This 5-week series emphasizes the technique behind Afro-Cuban dances. Lessons begin with a warmup, isolations, stretching, and strength building. 

Afro-Cuban Modern dance (or "Tecnica Cubana") is a Cuban dance that blends North American modern technique and European ballet with sacred Afro-Cuban traditions. The class starts with a warm-up focused on contraction and release techniques and undulation exercises, followed by across-the-floor and choreographed combinations. Components of traditional Afro-Cuban folkloric dances are also taught. The class is suitable for dancers of all levels. Classes are accompanied with live percussion by Omiyinka Moore and Omi Itunú.
