Alô Brasil is known as one of the premiere Brazilian bands in the mid-Atlantic region. Born out of a deep passion for Brazilian music, Alô Brasil's repertoire is a contemporary blend of Afro-Brazilian traditional and pop sounds, mixed with the musical roots of its hometown Philadelphia. Accompanied by stunningly costumed dancers, this legendary band draws audiences into a "tornado of rhythm and sound" (Philadelphia City Paper) - an irresistible, full body-and-soul experience. Whether parading with revelers, opening for galas or corporate events, or captivating masses of fans at local nightspots, Alô Brasil never fails to enchant.
Formed in 1999, Alô Brasil evolved out of previous Philadelphia-area Brazilian music groups PhilaSamba (mid-late 1980s), Banda Bacana (early 1990s), and Samba Nosso (mid-late 1990s). Individual band members bring a wealth of experience to the stage. Not only have they paraded with Rio de Janeiro Samba Schools during Carnaval, appeared on Brazilian television, and studied Capoeira Angola for many years, but they have also performed around the world with top acts in jazz, Latin, African, Afro-Cuban, and R&B music.
