Philadelphia, PA (July 29, 2014) - Justin Faulkner, illustrious drummer of the Branford Marsalis Jazz Quartet is sponsoring and headlining a free music festival at Clark Park in his West Philadelphia hometown from 11am to 8pm, on Sunday, Aug 17, 2014.
The Community Unity Music Festival promises something for everyone. Fun, games, food, drinks and most importantly live music -- in Clark Park at 43rd Street & Chester Avenue. Invited to headline is another of Justin’s musical colleagues. An internationally celebrated pianist and recipient of the Thelonious Monk award. Music lovers that like the invite on the Facebook event page are invited to guess who the mystery artist and band members are. The first to get it right gets an autographed copy of the artist’s CD and an onstage selfie with the band!!
The goal of the festival is to motivate the youth of the Cedar Park community and greater Philadelphia by highlighting the accomplishments and celebrating the talents of musicians and artists emerging from the local music scene—like Justin, who happens to be Philly’s homegrown drumming prodigy – as well as the catalyst for the festival. “When other young people see Justin and learn what he has accomplished they say, WOW! He’s from right here in this community. My vision is that when they experience the music it will motivate them to focus on their positives, and they’ll feel, hey- I can realize my dreams too,” states founder and festival organizer, Carol Mitchell-Faulkner.
The park will be filled with vendors, information booths, spoken word ciphers, DJ Chris, face-painting, stilt-walkers, a theatrical drill exhibition by the Cadets of the Philadelphia Police Explorers and performances by the Kimmel Center Creative Youth Ensemble as well as a host of other local and national performers. Clean-up and community service is being provided by the youth of the Lions Football Team. The Community Music Festival organizers and Clark Park promises this event will be a memorable, family-friendly and fun experience.
The Community Unit Music Festival’s goal is to guide or give hope to the youth of Cedar Park and the greater Philadelphia community by honoring individuals from the local community whose achievements have made a positive impact on the lives of others.
