October 15, 2017 4:00-7:00PM Philadelphia Folklore Project 30th Birthday/Movie Premiere

To celebrate our 30th birthday, the Folklore Project will be hosting a premiere of our latest documentary entitled Because of the War.
About Because of the War: In Philadelphia, four Liberian women, Tokay, Zaye, Marie and Fatu, use their music to address injustice and inspire action for social change. They are accomplished, brilliant singers – women, refugees, immigrants, Africans – who haven’t stopped contributing positively to the world, no matter the obstacles. Because of the War documents the power of traditional songs to make meaningful connections between and among people, and to re-build communities. The film was produced by the Philadelphia Folklore Project and Directed by Toni Shapiro-Phim.
The Philadelphia Folklore Project’s 30th Birthday Party will take place on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the International House in West Philadelphia. The gathering will include a premiere of Because of the War followed by a party with plenty of food and drink for all.
