Join Ron Kravitz & Christine Hopkins,  for an afternoon of outdoor drumming on the beautiful grounds of The New Covenant Church Campus7500 Germantown Ave., across from the Trolley Car diner. This is an event for people who love to drum, love dancing to the rhythms of the drums or who just love to listen!

A small selection of drums, assorted percussion instruments, and some chairs will always be provided for public use.

This is a FREE FAMILY ORIENTED event. Picnic blankets for lounging a plus.

The African Musical, Dance and Cultural Festival will involve 6 hours of nonstop music, food, games and activities for the whole family. On Sunday, August 5th with the African Festival which will take place from 2:00pm to 8pm at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing/ Delaware River Waterfront . 2018 marks our 11th anniversary of hosting the African Festival as part of the PECO Multicultural Series.

**Breakwater**
Breakwater is an American funk band from Philadelphia. The band released two albums: Breakwater in 1978, and Splashdown in 1980. The latter features the song "Release the Beast", which was sampled for the Murs track "Intro" in the album Murs 3:16: The 9th Edition. "Release the Beast" was later sampled by Daft Punk for the song "Robot Rock", which appeared on the album Human After All.

Siempre Salsa Philly is an initiative undertaken by Rob Bernberg (Latin Beat Magazine), Jesse Bermudez (A.M.L.A. founder) and Carlos Sanchez (Orquesta del Barrio) to grow the audience for authentic salsa music in the Philadelphia region via a series of educational and entertainment events throughout the year.

At Take the Lead Dance Project our belief is that social dance is important to the education, growth, and development of our youth. Through the practice of social dance, we strive inspire confidence, community, and joy in the lives of high school students in Philadelphia. Take the Lead Dance Project is a 10-week in-school arts education, social, and physical development social dance program designed to utilize partner dance instruction to impart social skills and attitudes broadly associated with the realm of social dance including discipline, teamwork, civility, appreciation of music, enhanced communication skills and respect for other cultures.

Magdaliz and Her Latin Ensemble CRISOL
Magdaliz and Her Latin Ensemble CRISOL, Spanish for melting pot, is an ensemble that has been performing in the Philadelphia and surrounding areas since 1997. This group is dedicated to the interpretation of a variety of folk and traditional music genres from Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, and other parts of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Summer Nights Concerts Series invites guests of all ages to kick back, relax, and enjoy music, friends, and family in the Penn Museum’s outdoor Stoner Courtyard, with its gardens and grassy areas, fountains, outdoor tables, and concert-style seating. The galleries stay open—including the Museum’s new Middle East Galleries—with an optional guided tour (topics and galleries vary) at the set break. Outside, the Pepper Mill Café offers light foods, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Guests are invited to bring their own picnic foods and blanket (but no alcoholic beverages). Concerts move inside in inclement weather. Admission is just $10 (includes Museum admission); FREE for Penn Museum Members and children under six years old.

Come be a part of the ninth annual nonprofit Philadelphia Dance Day! 

A group of local dance companies and independent instructors have teamed up to offer a Saturday packed with more than 25 FREE workshops, live performances and a $10 evening dance party and showcase. 

The goal: to unite the community in celebrating dance as a powerful platform for creative expression and physical activity.

All dance enthusiasts – regardless of experience – are invited to take part in the fun on July 28, 2018. There will be something for everyone, from tap dancing to ballroom to Zumba for all ages. 

No need to pre-register, just show up ready to dance!

Most of the workshops will be held at the Gershman Y in Center City, but a few will also be held at Major Moment Studio (1624 South Street) and Headlong Studios (1170 S. Broad St).

Visit any of these studios during the day to sample as many free workshops as you like, then come together in the evening for the main event at the Y. Festivities there will include an all-ages hip-hop masterclass, a variety of partner dance lessons, social dancing and a performance showcase featuring both student and professional dance groups. Find the schedule, as well as locations, class descriptions, what to wear and other frequently asked questions, at philadelphiadanceday.com.

The 2018 season of Performances in Public Spaces presents, Modero & Company. Modero is a community based traditional Indonesian and fusion dance company. 

This performance will be part of a cultural preservation effort and an invitation for all to enjoy the beauty of traditional dances, customs and to get to know the Indonesian community. Modero will lead the audience in a simple Indonesian dance, their namesake, “Modero,” which is a social dance circle.

The 2018 season of Twilight in the Gardens is in full swing, and July’s event is keeping the momentum going in a big way!

Paulette Branson & Mixed People is a funky, soul fusion band with hints of rock and world music, otherwise known as new age funk. The music is progressive, and the energy and emotion behind this band will get you dancing on your feet and singing along!

Teaching Artist Caroline Oddo is a Philadelphia-based artist and musician. For this month’s activity, Oddo will get your imagination going with unique paper dolls. Create yourself, a friend, or someone who inspires you! Googly eyes, glitter, markers, stickers, beads, and more will help you dress up and give personality to your doll – or use popsicle sticks to turn it into a puppet!

Visitors also have the chance to learn more about PMG through fun, casual mini-tours of the space and can check out the "Outsider Inspirations" exhibition in our galleries.

All Twilights are a BYOBBS event (Bring Your Own Booze, Blanket, and Snacks), and guests are encouraged to relax and picnic in the space.
