April 1, 2016 6:00-9:00 PM "What is This Thing Called Freedom?" at The Barnes Foundation

FIRST FRIDAY! FREEDOM IS CALLING
Philadelphia jazz violinist Diane Monroe leads her ensemble in "What Is This Thing Called 'Freedom'?: The Transforming and Timeless Songs of Protest." The program features Monroe's arrangements of classic protest songs that call for freedom and peace, plus original compositions. The ensemble includes storyteller Charlotte Blake-Alston; dancer, vocalist, and composer Germaine Ingram; vocalist Paul Jost; Tony Miceli on the vibraphone, and drummer Francois Zayas. In between live performances, take in a short talk on Albert Barnes's commitment to equality.
