The South Philly Big Band is comprised of the top working jazz musicians in the city's jazz scene today, as well as up and coming young artists. Led by saxophonist Chris Oatts, the group is grounded in the music of Thad Jones, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington, and plays compositions penned anywhere from the 1920's to present day. The band continues to perform on a monthly basis in Center City Philadelphia and has performed with world-renowned jazz musicians Walt Weiskopf, Ignacio Berroa and Steve Fidyk. The ensemble continually commissions and performs new music from Philadelphia and New York based composers.
