January 5, 2018 6:00-9:00PM First Friday at The Barnes: Minas Quintet

Enjoy classic songs like “Mas Que Nada,” “The Girl from Ipanema,” “Strong Black Coffee,” and “Águas de Março,” performed by the internationally acclaimed Brazilian-jazz group Minas. Get up and dance if the spirit—or the rhythm—moves you!

With more than three decades of performing and recording, Minas is known for its blend of Brazilian and American sounds, creating an unforgettable musical tapestry that transports and inspires listeners. Nominated for seven Grammy awards, the band has performed around the world, including in Brazil and in US venues like Lincoln Center in New York and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.

Minas is composed of Orlando Haddad (guitar, vocals, percussion) and Patricia K. Haddad (keys, vocals, percussion), who are joined tonight by Jim Stager (bass, percussion), Tom Cohen (drums, percussion), and John Swana (EVI, trumpet, valve trombone).
We hope you're free to join us, The Minas Quintet, featuring John Swana, Tom Cohen, Jim Stager, and Orlando and Patricia, at The Barnes Museum Friday, January 5. Sets 6:00-7:00, 7:30-8:30pm. We'll be playing some hot and melodic Bossas, Sambas, and originals along with interspersed batucada drumming. Enjoy music and art. Great atmosphere and bars will be open.
