This 5-week series will introduce students to the complex rhythms bought to Cuba by enslaved Africans from El Congo. Each lesson starts with a warmup which includes contraction and release technique, pelvic and torso undulations, stretching, and strength building. Traditional folkloric dances (Yuca, Makuta, and Palo) will be introduced. Finally, students will integrate the movements to Cuban contemporary/modern dance. All classes will be accompanied by live drumming. Take all 5 classes for $50 or $12/drop-in.
